Seminar with Professor Steve Redpath, ecologist/conservation scientist at the University of Aberdeen. He is currently King Carl XVI Gustaf Guest Professor in Environmental Science: "Conservation conflicts are widespread and typically damaging to biodiversity and human livelihoods. They arise from situations where conservation objectives clash with other objectives, such as those of farmers, or foresters or hunters or business or development. I am interested in understanding such conflicts and thinking about their management."

Lecturer: Steve is an ecologist/conservation scientist at the University of Aberdeen who works at the interface between natural science, social science, policy and stakeholders to tackle key research questions in environmental sustainability. He has a particular interest in exploring the conflicts around conservation through cross-disciplinary research. He and his team have led high-profile research projects into major conservation problems in the UK and increasingly on a range of conflicts across the world. He has written 170 peer reviewed publications and edited two books. He is currently King Carl XVI Gustaf Guest Professor in Environmental Science.

The QoG Institute regularly organizes seminars related to research on Quality of Government. The seminars address the theoretical and empirical problem of how political institutions of high quality can be created and maintained as well as the effects of Quality of Government on a number of policy areas, such as health, the environment, social policy, and poverty. Speakers are invited from the international research community and experts from NGOs and other organizations to the lunch seminars. The seminars last for one hour and include a short presentation by the speaker (30-35 min) followed by a joint discussion about the topic. If nothing else is indicated, the seminars are held in English.
