Improving Research Outputs, Research Impact and Research Culture: Can We Learn Anything from the UK and its Research Excellence Framework?

Seminarium

This introductory session will explore the British approach to developing research outputs, in the form of refereed articles, books, chapters, etc., research impact and research culture in UK universities. Over the past thirty years the UK has attempted to improve the quality and impact of research in universities, using a highly-regulated form of performance management, currently labelled the Research Excellence Framework (REF). This approach to improving research quality has had a fundamental impact, both positive and negative, on the output of academics, particularly in Business and Management, which is the most highly-competitive and largest unit of assessment.
