  • Old democracies cope better with severe crisis than newer ones

    [27 Jul 2020] In established democracies with long experience of democracy, the risk of democratic breakdown, in the face of a crisis like the current corona-crisis, is low. The outlook is very different for new democracies, especially those with weak civil society and weak political parties, according to research from the University of Gothenburg.

  • Palestinian experiences of (in)security, surveillance and carceral geographies

    [27 Jul 2020] Wassim Ghantous' dissertation examines the operations of contemporary Israeli security machinery, as it unfolds in the course of expanding the Israeli colonial frontier over Palestinian rural areas of the occupied West Bank. The thesis 'Settler-Colonial Assemblages and the Making of the Israeli Frontier: Palestinian experiences of (in)security, surveillance and carceral geographies' was successfully defended at the School of Global Studies on 28 February 2020.

  • JMG's media researchers are investigating corona virus reporting

    [3 Apr 2020] The researchers at the department of Journalism, media and communication (JMG) have been commissioned to follow the news reporting on the new corona virus (Covid-19). ¿ This gives us unique possibilities to compare with the knowledge that we have already acquired in previous studies, says docent Marina Ghersetti, member of the research team on crisis communication ¿ one of the key areas of research for the department at the University of Gothenburg.
