You are most welcome to The Program on Governance and Local Development (GLD) Seminar, with visiting scholar Karen Ferree, UC San Diego. The title of the seminar is: "Group Size and Co-ethnic Voting in Africa".

Lecturer: Karen Ferree studies democratization in Africa. Her work sits at the intersection of institutional and behavioral approaches to politics, with a particular focus on how ethnic and racial divisions and formal and informal institutions shape voting behavior and election outcomes in emerging democracies. She has written about South African politics in her book, Framing the Race in South Africa: the Political Origins of Racial Census Elections (Cambridge University Press, 2011). She has also written about electoral institutions, electoral integrity, and issues related to survey design in Africa.

Lecturer: Colin Hay is one of the top European political scientists of our time, sharing his time between Sheffield University, Sciences Po in Paris and the EUI in Florence. His work covers a broad range of political science, including political economy, political ideology and globalization studies. He has also published extensively on the political science discipline as such, reflecting on the quality and relevance of contemporary political science analyses. He is a prolific writer; his most recent (post-2012) publications include 11 books and about as many articles. He has received major research grants from the ESRC and from the Leverhulme Trust in Britain. He is also the recipient of numerous awards, including The Richard Rose Prize, the WJM MacKenzie Award and the Philip Abrams Memorial Award.
