'Natural Resource Conflicts and Sustainable Development' - new book

News: Jun 20, 2019

The new book Natural Resource Conflicts and Sustainable Development explores how the pressures on natural resources lead to scarcity and conflicts. The aim is to provide both a theoretical background and practical examples of natural resource conflict.

“This book focuses an urgent theme – the contradictions of natural resource use and sustainability – and the arising conflicts on environment and justice,” says Gunilla Almered Olsson, professor emerita in Human Ecology at the School of Global Studies, and one of the editors of the book.

The scope of the book is global with case studies from different parts of the world, and different socio-political settings. A range of global examples is presented, including water resources, fisheries, forests, human-wildlife conflicts, urban environments and the consequences of climate change.

The book, which is published by Earthscan, Routledge, aims to be a valuable text for advanced students of natural resource management, development studies and peace and conflict management. The book will also be of interest to practitioners in the field of natural resource management.
