Education at the Social Science Faculty

There are more undergraduate students at the Social Science Faculty than any other faculty at the University of Gothenburg.

These studies include just over 5,000 full-time students, of which just over half complete study programmes and others study from the wide range of independent courses. The programmes are among some of the most desirable in the country and five of our courses are in the university’s top ten of the most popular courses (political science, sociology, psychology, international relations and media & communications sciences).

Postgraduate Studies

The Faculty of Social Sciences has postgraduate level studies in ten different subjects. The studies covers 240 credits over four years and concludes with a Doctorate degree but there is also the option of finishing after two years with a Licentiate degree.

The postgraduate studies are the highest formal course available and aims at providing qualified education to people who want to work with research and development issues, both inside and outside universities and colleges.

The Doctorate gives formal access to apply for positions such as a senior university lecturer and is often set as a requirement for access to higher positions in public administration.
