Academic calendar

In Sweden, the higher education academic year runs from the end of August/beginning of September until the beginning of June. It is organized in two semesters, which are further divided into two (or four) periods each.

AY 2018/19

Autumn semester 2018: 3 September – 20 January
Spring semester 2019: 21 January – 9 June

AY 2019/20

Autumn semester 2019: 2 September – 19 January
Spring semester 2020: 20 January – 7 June

AY 2020/21

Autumn semester 2020: 31 August – 17 January
Spring semester 2021: 18 January – 6 June

The Autumn term Welcome Programme starts about one week before the start of classes. The Spring term Welcome Programme usually starts on the same day as the start of the term.

The exact start and end dates for each class can vary. To be sure of the exact dates of your course, see the class timetable (available closer to the start of the class).

Information about courses offered at the Faculty of Social Sciences is found under the links "First Cycle Courses" (undergraduate-level) and, only if applicable, "Second Cycle Courses" (graduate-level) to the left. The lists of courses offered are usually updated in late March/early April for the following academic year.

  • May 1: Last date for nominations
  • March 1- May 15: Online application period (including housing application)
  • May 16 - May 31 (Tentative): Course application period


Spring term

  • November 1: Last date for nominations
  • September 1 - November 15: Online application period (including housing application)
  • November 16 - November 30 (Tentative): Course application period
